This installation was conceived as a spatial response to the historical and environmental context of the Erie Canal. By reinterpreting the rhythmic movement of water, the project aims to evoke the memory of the canal’s past while offering a sensory experience that unfolds at night - inviting visitors to engage with the site through light, motion, and atmosphere.

The design uses rope lights anchored along both sides of the canal to trace the flow of waves. Through long-exposure photography, we captured dynamic, wave-like visuals formed by the interaction of light and water, transforming the canal into a temporal, immersive space.
This installation was an intermediate test rather than the final version above the canal. Constructed nearby at a width similar to the canal, it allowed visitors to enter and interact with the structure directly. Through long-exposure photography, the installation produced flowing, silk-like traces and overlapping silhouettes, capturing the interplay between movement and presence.
Final installation above the Erie Canal, where light, water, and memory converge.
